I have a '75 500C with a Drott 4:1 When I got mine it had some water in the tranny which many have told me is quite common for that to happen. I replaced all my vital fluids, the tranny and hyd. Both with HYTRANS fluid from the local carquest store.
I just did my steering clutches as the right side was pretty bad, I found the bolts holding the assemblies together were the problem as they had deteriorated. I replaced them all with grade 8 bolts with esna nuts (plastic lock nuts) It was pretty easy but I wouldn't do that w/o a manual, there are a couple thrust washers on the outer shafts that if dropped you will have a bigger problem, tearing apart the final drive. The plug is located about the middle of the bottom (there is a hole in the skid plate). The filters (2) are under the foot pan.
I use 'hytrans' fluid in mine. It's available at any implement dealer. I belive the machine holds about 33 quarts. It won't move if the fluid is low. Adjusting the clutch is'nt hard either but a manual would help you greatly. You can get it at a Komatsu dealer.I would recommend an OEM book as to an aftermarket book. Hope it helps! We drained the oil and flushed the trans with fuel. Refilled with 5 gal of Hytrans. Had enough to register on the stick just below the add make, will buy another 5 gal tomorrow. Machine still will not moving.

Removed the center shifter and freed up sliders. Sitting in the seat looking down) One on the left and center move, the right one doesn't look like it has a slot for the lever to enter so I'm thinking it's stationary. If anyone knows please tell me? Were hoping it will move tomorrow after we top off the fluid. If not I'm thinking it will have to come apart. I really could use some info on how that is done.
