Hi I am newbie here but have just bought my second Shogun. Its a V6 3.5 petrol/LPG and am very pleased with it but it has a problem. The top radiator hose gets hot but bottom hose stays cold.

The system seems to have a great deal of pressure because the hoses are very firm. If i take of the radiator cap the pressure is released and both hoses are soft again. The heater works in the car and the radiator get hot. The car doesn't overheat and doesn't lose water. Does anyone have a idea of what this could be and how i can mend it. I am thinking thermostat, air lock or possibly head gasket.

Any help would be appreciated. Google Sponsor Posted: Mon Feb 28, 2011 12:15 Post subject: Google Ads keep the POCUK free to join!

I have nearly the same problem, top hose hot, bottom hose stone cold, not even a trace of warm water running through.

The difference with my system is that there is not a lot of pressure in the system, I can squeeze the hoses quite easily, especially the bottom hose. The pipes from the heater matrix are very hot to touch but the heat in the car is only luke warm, even after an hours running, I can remove the rad cap without any pressure. I do not have any overheating problems either, guage stays just under halfway mark. My bottom hose only get hot when towing hard or cruising at well over 70 vinno. What concerns me more is the pressure build up. Both hose are very firm and if i take of radiator cap it will pop 4 feet in the air with a fair bit of coolant as well.

My 3.0 shogun doesnt do this. I am very worried that the head gasket is on the way out. Any advice please. Vinno gegs750k4. If it's worrying you that much take the car to a garage and ask them to do a hydrocarbon or sniff test on it to check if the headgaskets gone. Vinno.

I have bought a new 0.9 bar radiator cap byt that hasnt worked. Do you think its worth changing the thermostat and draining the cooling system? Cheers gegs750k4. Have you tried taking the rad off and flushing it through. Or lie it on it's back and fill it with boiling water. Feel the whole matrix then and check for cold spots in the core. If it's blocked it's easier to replace it rather than messing about trying to unblock it (unless you get it recored) vinno. Will check thermostat though. May try without thermostat and see what happens.

Think how hard you bike tyre inner tube is with 15psi in, then add the fact that its full of water. If the presure is too high you will see the expansion tank filling up with water vinno. Do you think i might be worrying unnecessary then? On the good side i don't seem to lose water, oil looks ok. But coolant looks dirty/week.I will try thermostat and flush out system.
